An arts and mental health initiative, Berkshire and Oxfordshire 2001-2003maps aims to change lives and overcome isolation by placing people with mental health needs at the heart of the community.The video documents key features of the programme, including:• A mentoring scheme supporting the personal and professional development of emerging artists with mental health histories.• Interviews with artists, health professionals, project participants, mentors and mentees.• Participatory arts projects in day centres.• Festivals celebrating the performing arts• Visual arts exhibitions

A Study of 5 community-based arts in health projects in the UK. The field research was carried out between 1999-2001. The projects requesting the evaluation are: the Wrekenton Lantern Project in Gateshead; South Tyneside Arts Studio in South Shields; the West End Health Resource Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne; Looking Well in High Bentham, and the Bromley-by-Bow Centre in East London.The 100-page illustrated publication is a revised and edited version of the full report. It provides detail on the five arts and health projects and their programmes of work. It considers the mechanisms that appeared to be crucial in the practice of arts in health in community settings and its effectiveness in generating health benefits to participants and professionals in their communities.

A paper aiming to explain the importance of a closer partnership between the arts and health sectors, to set out the role of London Arts in achieving the partnership and to present an action-plan for a 2 year span.

Building on from the original manual in launched in February 2000 this new version has been updated. It is designed for health and disability workers planning to set up and develop a resource centre within resource-poor communities around the world.

Launched to commemorate International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, this report attempts to document, in indigenous people's own words, their views and concerns about their health and wellbeing and that of their communities. The study includeds the views of indigenous people living in Namibia, Guatemala, Burma, Laos and Cambodia.

Theatr Fforwm Cymru is an educational charity based in Pembrokeshire who use Theatre of the Oppressed and other drama-based techniques to effect change, the Agora Report is a 26 page report accompanied by a DVD to be used to introduce proposals for legislative change that have come about through the legislative theatre event, the Agora. It can also be used to participate in making these proposals a reality. The DVD takes you clearly through the proposals using short documentaries that give each community group involved an opportunity to present the rationale for their proposals, and includes footage from the Legislative theatre pieces from which the proposals have emerged.

This book has philosophy and examples of projects that encourage cultrual development and illustrate the right of all to be creative The book has chapters on Culture, the Environment, Participation, Social Inclusion, Employment of Time Strategies, Income Generation and Keys to Success and includes examples from the arts in prisons, hospitals, the environment and in communities where people have had limited access to the arts.

The Centre's resource library contains over 3000 titles on the subject of arts and education, arts and health, community development and urban regeneration. Besides British, American and European texts, a section of the library is exclusively dedicated to reports, case studies and literature published by a wide range of cultural organisations at a regional, national and international level, which provides users with an up-to-date overview of any developments currently taking place in the fields of cultural policy, arts and education, urban renewal and community development. In addition, the library regularly receives a number of periodicals, newsletters and magazines making it an invaluable reference and research source for practitioners within the above mentioned fields. Its holdings are constantly being updated and the library is currently undergoing restructuring, the result of which will be a much improved, quick reference database for ease of use. The library can be visited by appointment on Monday-Thursday, between 10am and 4pm. While use of the facilities is free, there is a charge of 10p per page for photocopies.
