4. Anger management with art – with Marian Liebmann
Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre, Birmingham, UK, - 12-14 March & 21 -23 November 2008
This short course uses art materials to look at anger issues. No ability in art is needed. We will look at what anger is; whether it is good or bad; at the physical symptoms of anger; what lies underneath the anger; the influence of early family patterns; anger and conflict; and how to use relaxation and assertiveness to manage anger more constructively. There will be a set of handouts to take away. This course is for anyone who would like to look at anger issues using art materials – those who want to look at their own anger issues, those working with others who are angry, or both.
What can I hope to gain?
An insight into anger and ways of looking at it, and some strategies for dealing with it constructively; comparing notes with other participants; and hopefully enjoyment in using the art materials for self-expression.
Marian Liebmann is an art therapist and mediator and brings these backgrounds together in her workshops exploring the use of art with conflict and anger issues. She has worked with groups and individuals in the mental health service using art to look at their anger issues.
Fees for March are £136 resident standard, £156 resident en suite, £100 non resident.
Fees for November £146 resident standard, 166 resident en suite, £110 non resident

6. Tales From The Shed
Chickenshed, Chase Side Southgate London N14 4PE
April – July 2008
Chickenshed’s popular Interactive Tales from the Shed brings stories, both original and traditional, to life in a land of colour, characters and fun. This interactive performance for the under 7's introduces them to a universe where there is no edge to the stage, so children and performers travel a theatrical journey together.
Tales has been running since 1996 and has created hundreds of songs and stories and many, many characters. Thousands of children have passed through its magical world of make-believe, building friendships with the characters, learning the songs, almost as they learn to talk, bringing their own magic to an ever-changing show that absorbs their contribution and imagination.
Tales from the Shed is part of Chickenshed's inclusive programme. It is for all children and shows us a world where everybody can come and share together and not only believe in the magic but make it happen. (Children attending must be accompanied by an adult).
Entrance Cost: £5.30 adult / £3.70 children & £4.20 / £2.60 concession.
Box Office: 020 8292 9222 / Minicom: 020 8350 0676

8. Club du Lac aux Oiseaux "INTASHIKIRWA" - opportunities for collaboration and exchange in the East African Community
Burundi has officially joined in the East African Community since 2007. The East African Community is composed by "Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda". For Club du Lac aux Oiseaux "INTASHIKIRWA" this represents a good opportunity for artists from those 5 countries to exchange culture and best practices using the facilities offered by the political signed agreements. For example, there is already free circulation of citizens from the those countries. This means that even artists ccab move freely move from one country to another and partner with them without any problem. As an example, the Club du Lac aux Oiseaux has already been invited by the "NDERE GROUP "of Uganda to participate in the 2006 International Festival which was organised in Kampala. The participation was a success and they hope to have an opportunity to participate in the similar coming events which will take place in the sub-region.
For further information about Club du Lac aux Oiseaux contact Justine Nkurunziza email: intashikirwa_clo @yahoo.fr
9. Chobi Mela V – International Festival of Photography – call for submissions
From Shahidul Alam, Director Chobi Mela V
Drifting in cage and out again
Hark unknown bird does fly
Shackles of my mind
If my arms could entwine
With them I would thee bind
Rooms it had eight
And doors it had nine
Windows betwixt you find
Up above the glittering hall
Mirrors might make you blind
What fate alas makes bird do thus
Caged bird breaks free to fly
Of bamboo raw the cage I saw
This mind of mine still longs oh so
Lalon Fakir cries as he sees with his eyes
The cage wither and go*
The body, the soul, the self, the universe, Lalon saw freedom not as an entity outside oneself, but as a lived experience. Within yet afar. Ephemeral but tactile. With wings but encaged.
New forms of slavery form new forms of chains. Violence suffered in silence. Ancestral land commandeered. Resistance made illegal.
What mask does freedom now wear? Freedom to profit is the new elixir. Freedom to reach distant markets, to exploit cheap labour. The word that takes us to such dizzying heights leaves the deepest of wounds with its loss. 'Foreign' sounding names, 'wrong' coloured skin, 'different' passports, circumscribe our new freedoms.
Going beyond walls built to occupy territory. Beyond bombs dropped to coerce the unarmed. Beyond cells built to hold the other. Artists paint with colours that don't exist. Write with words as yet un-invented. Photograph where light is yet to reach. The cage. The door. The wing. The soul. Freedom.
