Synopsis

This briefing and discussion paper presents the case for why global issues are integral to the design and delivery of youth work in the UK. It has been published jointly by the DEA, NYA, Youth Link Scotland, Cyngor Ieuenctid Cymru (Wales Youth Agency), and the Youth Council for Northern Ireland with support from DFID, CYEC, DfES Connexions Unit and NCVYS. It emphasises the links between global issues and current social agendas and outlines the action maintained youth services, voluntary youth work organisations and youth work training providers can take to develop and embed global dimensions in their work. It also includes brief examples of global youth work practice, and sources of information, training, resources and support. It will be of interest to all those working in informal education with young people, but is primarily aimed at decision makers within national voluntary youth organisations, senior youth and community education officers within local authorities, curriculum development officers within youth work organisations and youth and community work training agencies and providers.
