Synopsis
Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of MScEcon in Social Development Planning and Management of the University of Wales, this paper revolves around the question 'Do the arts have anything to offer social development practice?' Looking at the aims of participatory social development and community arts (in the UK and Australia), the aims and expectations of funding organisations and in chapter four of her research Rachel focuses on the world of two major practitioners in this field Deidre Williams and Creative Exchange partner Francois Matarasso.
