Project Focus

Relay educational messages through the popular storytellingÕs form of puppet shadow theatre, in continuity with the ancient past and in relaying vital information to the general public. Provide training and opportunity to develop artistic skills to 12 of Sovanna Phum Artists. To effectively inform messages on HIV/AIDS and drug prevention/awareness to vulnerable communities such as street children, slum dwellers, e.t.c. in targeted provincial areas.

Project Activities

Training 6 puppeteers and 6 musicians on Drugs and HIV vulnerability. 3 pilot + 15 medium-sized shadow puppet performances in 6 provinces. Tour and transmit messages on HIV/AIDS and drug prevention/awareness to communities identified as having existing substance using population. (Estimate 9,000 people) conduct discussion workshops with audiences following the performances.

Family Group Impacts: Community Impacts: Due to Cambodia's high rate of illiteracy, shadow puppet theatre can be an effective means of transmitting information on drug prevention/awareness and HIV/AIDS vulnerability in an entertaining attractive way that can attract thousands in the audience, particularly the youth. Positive impacts on drugs and HIV/AIDS prevention messages transmitted educationally and artistically to vulnerable populations. Other Impacts: Lessons Learned: Problems Encountered: External risks for the implementation of action includes high co-ordination with Mith Samlanh and other NGO based in high-drug use and HIV infection areas to ensure smooth logistics of touring.
