HIV/AIDS: The Creative Challenge in the Caribbean

The Caribbean workshop was held in Kingston in July 2007. It was attended by twelve development practitioners from five non-governmental organisations (NGOs) utilising cultural approaches to HIV and AIDS prevention and care, and a further 20 representatives from regional policy, donor or government agencies and civil society organisations with a particular interest in HIV and AIDS work.

Case Studies

Four NGOs contributed to a series of case studies from the region. Of the five NGOs represented at the workshop, four operate in Jamaica and one in Trinidad and Tobago; two (one in Jamaica and the one in Trinidad and Tobago) are general development agencies and two (in Jamaica) are arts based, while one (in Jamaica) is an HIV and AIDS NGO. The four case study projects utilise performance arts as the basis of their cultural methodology.
